Zamalek Football Club of Egypt defeated Enyimba International of Nigeria 1-0 in a CAF Champions League Group B match played in Egypt Monday night, 15 August, 2016.
The Nigerian flag bearers were not inspiring in the game watched by Enyimba boss, Felix Anyansi, who travelled to Egypt with the club.
The hosts grabbed maximum three points to move to the semi finals though a point would have been enough for the Egyptian giants Zamalek.
The White Knights occupied second spot in the Group with six points just as semis-bound South African side, Mamelodi Sundowns.
Zamalek went into the match with their morale high, after clinching a fourth Egyptian Cup in row. The Cairo-based club ousted arch rivals Ahly 3-1 in Alexandria last Monday to claim their 25th Egyptian Cup title, and save their domestic season after Ahly edged them to the league title.
After a dream start with an away 1-0 victory against Enyimba in Port Harcourt, the Egyptians suffered back to back defeats to Sundowns, which saw the latter confirm their place at the semis.
The White Knights have interim trainer Moamen Soliman to thank for their recent successes. The club’s sixth manager in their roller-coaster season has won his two games since taking over including the Egyptian Cup triumph at the expense of eternal rivals Ahly.
