Yakmut Joins Commonwealth Advisory Body

The newly appoint­ed Acting Direc­tor General of the National Sports Com­mission, Al-Hassan Yakmut has added an­other feather to his cap with his appointment into the Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sport (CABOS) by the Com­monwealth Secretariat.
The appointment which was communicated to Yakmut via a letter by the Programme Manager, Sport for Development and Peace Youth Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat, Mr. Malcolm Dingwall-Smith is for a period from 2015 to 2018.
Following the appoint­ment, the Ag. director general has therefore been invited to participate in the 2015 CABOS Annual General meeting expected to hold in Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago between 15 and 19 June, 2015.
The Commonwealth appointment which was coming on the heels of Yakmut’s elevation as the new Chief Admin­istrative Officer of the National Sports Commis­sion was a testimony to his verse knowledge as a technocrat, sportsman and seasoned administrator of 25 years standing dur­ing which he contributed immensely to the sports policy development and implementation of the Na­tional Sports Commission.
Yakmut who holds three Masters Degrees in Sports Admin and Physi­cal Education, Business Administration, Interna­tional Law and Diploma­cy, IOC Advanced Sports Management Diploma and B.Sc. in Physical and Health Education had also coordinated sports devel­opment activities in three geo-political zones, cover­ing 18 states including the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, where empha­sis was on policy develop­ment and implementation as well as Performance Monitoring Evaluation.
He was among the par­ticipants that evolved the 2013 Commonwealth Youth Sport Charter at the 4th Commonwealth Sports Development Confer­ence in Glasgow, as well as developed the concep­tual note and operational framework of the first Na­tional Youth Games where 4250 youths participated.
