
The newly appointed Acting Director General of the National Sports Commission, Al-Hassan Yakmut has added another feather to his cap with his appointment into the Commonwealth Advisory Body on Sport (CABOS) by the Commonwealth Secretariat.
The appointment which was communicated to Yakmut via a letter by the Programme Manager, Sport for Development and Peace Youth Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat, Mr. Malcolm Dingwall-Smith is for a period from 2015 to 2018.
Following the appointment, the Ag. director general has therefore been invited to participate in the 2015 CABOS Annual General meeting expected to hold in Port of Spain in Trinidad and Tobago between 15 and 19 June, 2015.
The Commonwealth appointment which was coming on the heels of Yakmut’s elevation as the new Chief Administrative Officer of the National Sports Commission was a testimony to his verse knowledge as a technocrat, sportsman and seasoned administrator of 25 years standing during which he contributed immensely to the sports policy development and implementation of the National Sports Commission.
Yakmut who holds three Masters Degrees in Sports Admin and Physical Education, Business Administration, International Law and Diplomacy, IOC Advanced Sports Management Diploma and B.Sc. in Physical and Health Education had also coordinated sports development activities in three geo-political zones, covering 18 states including the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, where emphasis was on policy development and implementation as well as Performance Monitoring Evaluation.
He was among the participants that evolved the 2013 Commonwealth Youth Sport Charter at the 4th Commonwealth Sports Development Conference in Glasgow, as well as developed the conceptual note and operational framework of the first National Youth Games where 4250 youths participated.
