World Cup Draws: Nigeria May Face Brazil

The are strong indications that the Super Eagles of Nigeria may play in the same group with hosts of next year’s FIFA World Cup, Brazil.
The Eagles are in Pot 2 of the Draws slated to take place at Costa do Sauipe, Bahia in Brazil on Friday, 6 December, and Nigeria’s prospect of facing Brazil early in the World Cup is high.
The Brazilian team are in Pot 1 alongside top teams such as; Argentina, Columbia, Germany, and the defending champions, Spain.
Any of these tough team could be drawn in the same group with the Coach Stephen Keshi-led Super Eagles.
Apart from the teams listed above, Nigeria may also be in same group with either of Mexico and USA, who are in Pot 3, and one of these countries; England, France, Italy and Portugal who are in Pot 4 ahead of the Draws.
Interestingly, any of the so called ‘less fancied’ teams could also draw Nigeria, that is what Efe Ambrose is praying for when the draws get underway.
“My prayer is for Nigeria to get a fair draw, we will not like to play any tough opponent in the first round. I pray we avoid the tough opponents in the group stage”, Efe said on brilafm on Wednesday.
Veteran Journalist, Paul Bassey is also praying for an easy draw for Nigeria, saying he would not like the Super Eagles to start their campaign at the World Cup with tough teams such as Brazil,
Argentina and Germany.
He added that Brazil are hosts and potential winners of the World Cup, but he will like Nigeria to meet them in the crucial stages.
However, another Eagles star, Nosa Igiebor says he is not afraid of any team, that the current Nigerian team can face any opposition in the World cup finals.
Meanwhile, FIFA President, Joseph Sepp Blatter has said that Brazil are capable of winning the World Cup as hosts.
He said: “Brazil are five times world champions, they will try to keep the cup. I’m very happy about their preparations, and the simple reality is that football is Brazilian, they will try to win the World Cup on an American continent”.
