“My wife came back from school with another man’s pregnancy and she is begging me to accept it,” that was how a 36-year teacher, Mr Olabode Johnson, explained his stained marital life to an Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Monday, 20 February, 2017.

The petitioner said that his wife, Yemisi, of two-year marriage went for a course and she came back home with pregnancy.

“My wife went for her Master Degree program at the university of Jos and came back home after the completion of her course.

“And last month, she slumped and I rushed her to the hospital, that was where it was confirmed that she was five months pregnant, which mean that she was already four-month pregnant when she came back.

“I was shocked because I can’t just believe that a woman I married in the Church could be involved in extra marital affair barely two years after our marriage.

“My wife hardly comes home when she went for her program, the first and last time she visited home was in July 2016, she did not even come home during Christmas break.

“Whenever I call her to come home that myself and our son are missing her, she always told me that she cannot come due to distance.

“Not even knowing that it was because of her promiscuous life that made her not to come and she is now begging me to accept what I know nothing about, it cannot work.

“I cannot allow her to nurse another man’s pregnancy under my roof, she should go back to her parent’s house, I will not accept it,” he said.

He said after their marriage, that Yemisi still received calls from men and this always caused their frequent fighting.

“My wife can talk with a man on phone for hours, I always caution her telling her that she is now a married woman but she will not listen.

“There was a night her phone rang, she left me on the bed and went to the sitting room to receive the call.

“The conversation started from 2:00am and ended by 3:30am, when she returned to the bed, I queried her but she could not give me a satisfactory answer,” he said.

He begged the court to terminate the union that the love he once had for her had faded.

However, Yemisi, 34, who accepted the allegation broke down in tears, begging her estranged husband, not to divorce her.

The respondent, who was on her knees with her pregnancy urged the court to help her begged her husband to drop the suit.

“Please court, save my marriage, it was the devil that pushed me into adultery. I would have aborted the pregnancy but I’m afraid,” she said.

The mother of one made a fervent plea to the Court not to dissolve the marriage that she was still in love.

“I am not ready to divorce my husband because I still love him, please do not grant him his wish for the dissolution of our marriage,” she said.

The Court President, Mr Adegboyega Omilola, adjourned the case to March 28 for judgment.
