W/Cup: Dike Blow For Nigeria

Nigeria’s preparation for the FIFA 2014 World Cup has been hit with the news that Toronto FC striker Bright Dike might miss the tournament after rupturing his Achilles.
The burly all action striker sustained the injury during his MLS side’s pre-season training and this has cast a huge doubt on his participation as he might not recover in time for the tournament, the Toronto Sun revealed on Monday.
Dike, took to the social network site Twitter, to express his dismay at this latest set back on his handle (@bbright19) saying: “Worst day of my life”.
The 27 year old striker, who was listed in the 23 man list released by Coach Stephen Keshi to prosecute the 5 March friendly with Mexico has had a history of injuries on his Achilles.
He just recovered from the same injury last season and also had problems with the same Achilles in 2011 just before he made his MLS debut.
This will come as a huge set back for Toronto FC’s preparation for the new MLS season as well as Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi who have kept faint with the former Portland Timbers forward.
Bright Dike, who is a cousin to Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Emenike, made his Nigeria debut against Catalonia in an international friendly prior to the 2013 African Cup of Nations. He has four caps for Nigeria with two goals.
