Coach for Nigeria’s junior tennis team, Ubale Mohammed, has expressed optimism in his players as the team slug it out with other African countries at this year’s African Junior Tennis Championship, AJTC, holding in Lome, Togo.
The coach, who spoke with eyeonthesports.com shortly before the team departed for the West African country, noted that the players will make the country proud at the end of the week-long event which serves off on Wednesday, 14 January.
He said: “everything is in perfect order, the players have perfected everything we instructed them during training and they are in high spirits ahead of the Championship.
“I know that we have the best crop of youngsters from our region as we proved last year with our dominant display. We are looking forward to another great performance this year as we always want to better our previous achievements.
“With the backing of the NTF as well, I am sure that we shall have a very productive outing in Togo in the next one week”.
Also echoing Ubale’s sentiment, President of Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF, Ndanusa noted that the players will make the country proud as they depart the shores of the country.
“Honestly, I am not worried about how they will perform in Togo because we already saw the flashes of what they can do right here in Nigeria.
“Their performance at the junior ITF tournament in Togo late last year was also a testament to their improvement over the years. We want to build on that this year, and aim even higher”, he explained.
The ITF/CAT Junior Championship will feature players from the Central and Western African regions.
