U-17 W/Cup: Nigeria’s Eaglets Hold Sweden To 3-3 Draw

Eaglets winNigeria’s Golden Eaglets fought a hard fight on Tuesday, as they forced Sweden to 3-3 draw in their second group match of the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup holding at the United Arab Emirates, UAE.

Unlike their opening match, which the Eaglets found so easy, defeating the defending champions, Mexico 6-1, their second opponents from Sweden stretched the Coach Manu Garba-led squad beyond the limit, going ahead thrice, but the Nigerian team tarried till end of the tension soaked tie.

Sweden and Nigeria had tied 2-2 with less than 20 minutes to go, but Mirza gave the Swede their third goal and they looked so good to go away with the lead before a creative Taiwo Awoniyi salvaged the day with a superb equaliser to give Nigeria a point in the explosive match.

In the other group match played earlier, holders Mexico bounced back from their opening-day hammering to defeat Iraq 3-1 in Al Ain, and do their chances of reaching the knockout rounds a world of good at the U-17 World Cup.
