U-17 AJC: South Africa Beat Nigeria In S/Final

World champions Nigeria’s Golden Eaglets were pipped 1-0 by first –time qualifiers for the World Cup, South Africa in a CAF U-17 African Junior Championship in Niamey on Wednesday.
Mayo scored after 26 minutes off a defensive lapse and the Amajimbos, already celebrating historic qualification for the cadet World Cup, held off spirited Nigerian efforts in the second half to assure victory.
Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, Charles Christian and Orji Okwonkwo made concerted efforts towards the end, and even hit the upright twice, but it is South Africa that will contest the Championship final match on Sunday against the winner of the second semi final between Mali and Guinea, which will take place on Thursday.
The Eaglets will play the third place match against the loser of the Mali-Guinea semi final.
All four semi finalists have already booked their places at the FIFA U-17 World Cup taking place in Chile later this year.
