Although, the remains of late Dr. Charles Olabode was laid to rest on Thursday, 11th November, 2021 at his home in Ado Ekiti, but his demise was a traumatic experience for everyone.
Families and friends were in tears as well wishers and neighbours gathered to pay their last respect to the late Medical Doctor. His Christ’s School (1979/84) classmates, who had to deal with emotional grief, however played a significant role during his funeral.
Eyeonthenews.com gathered that Dr. Charles Ayodele Olabode died in the early hours of Wednesday, 3rd November, this year at the age of 54 following a protracted illness.
Before Dr. Charles Olabode’s death, his Christ’s School 79/84 classmates, ably led by President Olufemi Awogbami, were always there by his side, providing the required assistance till his last breath.
Even, while on his sick bed at an Hospital at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, his classmates such as Muyiwa Nelson, Bisi Apata, Dele Fagbamila, Jide Akinyede and others paid him regular visits.
For Dr. Charles, his final journey home began with a Service Of songs held at 5:00pm on Monday, 8th November, 2021, at his Abuja residence; Okitipupa Close, Garki II. His classmates who attended the Abuja ceremony included; Engineer Jide Akinyede, Bisi Apata, Soji Olowolafe, Kayode Ojuolape, Dele Fagbamila, Lekan Lawanson, Tope Fasuba, Femi Muyiwa Nelson, Layiwola Morris Oyalegan and Tunde Adebiyi.
His body left Abuja on Tuesday, 9th November for Ado Ekiti. The presence of his classmates were also felt at the Wake Keeping held later Wednesday. Those at the event were Kanmi Olatoye, Fasanmi Sola, Eyitayo Borode, Reverend & Mrs Alabi Gbenga, Kunle Dada (Haglar), Sola Olu-Kings Esa, Titiloye Tunde, Adetule Taiwo, Alegbeleye Ayo, Deji Samo (Denjo, a Senior) back then.
Earlier on Thursday, a Service was held for him at the Saint Luke’s Anglican Church, Ile Abiye, Ilawe Road, Ado Ekiti, where his classmates sang Christ’s School Anthem and recited the School prayers.
This newspaper further learnt that Reverend (prof) Gbenga Amu, Layi Ajisafe, Femi Famuagun, Sola Falade, Tolu Aina and other classmates earlier mentioned, were also at the interment held at Charles’ residence on NTA Road, Ado Ekiti later on Thursday.
After the interment, Charles’ classmates paid a private visit to his immediate family, where Reverend Amu said some soothing words to his widow and the children he left behind.
A popular saying is that the bond between friends and classmates is beyond the mortal world, that much was well articulated by Olufemi Awogbami, incumbent President of 79/84 Set: “I want to extend my condolences to the relatives of our dear friend, Dr. Charles Olabode who has left us unto a higher realm.
Awogbami, stated further: “I thank each and everyone of us for your show of love right from day one when we learnt of his health challenges. We all feel a deep sorrow for this moment that we are going through, but we also know that although Charles is no longer in this world, the good times we all had with him one way or the other will remain indelible”.
Awogbami concluded that: “Let us keep his wonderful memory as a great treasure in our hearts and remember his family in prayers. We ask the Lord to give him eternal rest and have him in His glory”.
The late Charles Olabode was a Medical Doctor based in Abuja. He Studied Medicine & Surgery at University of Ilorin, Kwara State, Nigeria, and attended Christ’s School, Ado Ekiti and other schools.
