Team Bayelsa Eye Swimming Medals At Festival

The Head Coach of Bayelsa Swimming Team, Mr Reuben Amos, on Wednesday boasted that the state team would win all gold medals available in the sport at the next National Sports Festival, NSF.
Amos disclosed in Yenagoa that the team had been preparing hard since May, saying; “Bayelsa as a costal state has the natural talent and qualities for swimming and we are going to be the best among the 36 states at the next NSF in Calabar.
“My team have been training to get fit and to improve skills to enable them actualise the dream in the 2014 sports fiesta.
“Team Bayelsa did well in the just concluded fifth edition of the Chief of Naval Staff Swimming Competition in September in Oghara, Delta State.
“We clinched the second position, while Delta took the first position and we won seven gold and three bronze medals. So we are good in swimming”, he said.
Amos commended the state government for the on-gong upgrading and construction of new facilities for the game, saying it was a step in the right direction.
“The provision of the new swimming-pool is a good development and I believe it’s going to be the best in Nigeria. I give kudos to the Bayelsa Government”, the coach said.
Amos, however, said lack of modern facilities for training was the team’s main challenge. He, therefore, urged the state government to provide more facilities to promote swimming to international standards.
He explained that the provision of modern ground for training would not only help to improve performance but would attract more athletes to the game.
