A 35-year-old teacher, Chukwu Ndubuisi, has been arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court, in Lagos, for allegedly raping a six-year-old pupil (names withheld) in the school premises.
The Fine Arts teacher, according to the prosecution, committed the offence after the school hours at Omole Phase 11, Ikeja.
He was arrested by Policemen from Ketu Police Station.
The Investigating Police Officer, Betty Coker, told the court at his arraignment that results of medical test conducted on the minor confirmed “attempted penetration’’.
The offence is punishable under Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Magistrate S. Hamzat, who adjourned the case to November 3, granted the accused t N100,000 bail with two sureties, adding that the sureties should deposit N50,000 each with the court registrar.
The magistrate said one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the accused and must be gainfully employed by a reputable organisation with evidence of tax payment.
A copy of the case file has been sent to the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Before the arraignment, an official of Temitayo Ogan Child Safety and Support Foundation, (TCOSS) reported the case to the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual and Violence Response Team (DSVRT).
