A suspected armed robber was on Sunday set ablaze along the South core road within the premises of the Federal University of Agriculture (FUAM), Makurdi in Benue State.
It was gathered that the deceased had earlier stormed a private hostel adjacent to the
University’s campus and held some of the students hostage at gunpoint.
And, in the course of robbing the students of their laptops, phones and other valuable items, one of the victims raised the alarm which attracted other
residents of the area to mobilize to the scene.
Some witnesses however rejected the explanation that the suspected robber, who was identified by some as a student of the institution, was burnt to
death by his colleagues.
Such witnesses alleged instead that the robber’s
charred body was found by the roadside early yesterday morning.
A spokesman for the university, Mr. Joseph Fanafa, said he could not immediately ascertain the identity of the deceased or account for what had
transpired until he returned from his trip outside the town.
The Police spokesman, Moses Joel Yamu, said the command received the report of a yet to be identified burnt body of a male found along the institution road about 11am yesterday, and investigation was yet to unravel the act of
the deceased and those who killed him.
