Governor Suntai: Plane Crash Survivor Dies

Nigeria’s political scene, especially in the North was thrown into sudden grief on Wednesday, when the news hit the country that former Governor, Dambaba Suntai of Taraba State has died.

Suntai, who was involved in a plane crash in October 2012 was reported dead in Houston, Texas, in the United States of America.

Mr. Emmanuel Bello, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Darius Ishaku on Public Affairs confirmed Suntai’s death.

Suntai, 56, has since the plane crash been receiving treatment in hospitals across the world.

Bello said information on when the remains of the former governor would be conveyed back to Nigeria would be released later.

Danbaba Danfulani Suntai was a pharmacist who was elected as Executive Governor of Taraba State, Nigeria running for the People’s Democratic Party in April 2007, and was sworn in on 29 May 2007.

He ran successfully for reelection on 26 April 2011.
