Stores Beat 3SC At Onikan Stadium

The Nigeria National League, NNl Week three match between Stationery Stores of Lagos and visiting Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC of Ibadan lived up to its pre-match hype, as Stores won the match by 2-0.
Raphael Onwrebe and Festus Ajah scored a goal apiece in each half to give the Adebajo Babes full match points in the highly entertaining encounter, played at Onikan Stadium.
The match recorded a few near misses including a 15th minute penalty. Edem Francis missed a penalty kick that could have shot 3SC ahead in the first half, as his rocket shot bounced off the cross bar.
While 3SC were still trying to get over the pain of their costly penalty miss, Raphael and Festus made some quick passes and beat the defence of 3SC twice, but goalkeeper Abiodun Akande denied them early goals.
Stores finally broke the deadlock when Raphael’s flying header beat 3SC goalkeeper Akande, leaving the home fans to run around the arena with shouts of ‘Flaming! Flaming!!’
The scoreline remained 1-0 till the teams went on first half break. When the clubs
returned for actions in the second half, Coach Frankling Howard, who was on his feet throughout the encounter, urged his players to take the ball to their hosts.
Former Rangers defender, Sylvanus Ebiaku, who played from 3SC’s right back position tried some offensive moves and curled in a few passes, but his attackers failed to convert the slim chances created. Gift Samson and Gideon Effiong also made some good runs into Stores’ vital area, but 3SC wasted their opportunities.
The Oluyole Warriors however paid for their poor finishing when Festus rammed home Stores’ second goal during a goal-mouth scramble deep in the second stanza.
The large crowd at Onikan Stadium brought back the sweet memories of the Nigerian League, while some dignitaries including ex-players of Stores turned out to witness the return of the Lagos darling team.
Amongst the ex-players of Stores who watched the action packed match were; Taiwo Oloyode, Colins Ebitimi aka ‘Barbed Wire’, Sunday Ilevbare, Golden Ajeboh, Wasiu Adetoro and the great Peter Rufai, aka ‘Dodo Mayana’, the Stores’ former goalkeeper who captained Nigeria’s Super Eagles to their first ever FIFA World Cup held at USA ’94.
