Six-Year-Old Girl Gang-Raped In Lagos

Two auto mechanic apprentices, Chika Joseph and Oluwaseun Adeleke allegedly gang-raped a six-year-old girl in Lagos, Nigeria recently.
The accused – Joseph, 23; and Adeleke, 22, who entered a `not-guilty’ plea to the charge of conspiracy, indecent treatment of a child and defilement, were residents of Agege and Ipaja area of Lagos State. 

An Ikeja Magistrates’ released them on a N500,000 bail each on Thursay and also asked the accused to produce two sureties each as part of the bail condition. 
The Magistrate, Mrs T. Akanni, said that each of the accused sureties must be a religion leader in Lagos State while the other should own a landed property.

According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, the accused committed the offences on March 8 in Agege area of Lagos.

He said that the accused conspired to defile a six-year-old girl.

“The accused tied the girl’s limbs, defiled her after luring her into their shop. 

“Her mother, who does petty trading in front of their shop, had gone to the market at the time.When she returned, she noticed that her daughter was stooling and urinating with semen coming out of her anus.

“The girl told her mother what the accused did to her,” he said.

According to the prosecutor, the girl is now restless, she does not behave well.

“It’s because she was too small. It affected her womb. She started stooling and urinating profusely. It is a life-time damage they have been done to this child but she’s on treatment now,” he said.

The offences contravened sections 137, 139 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. 

The accused may be jailed for life if found guilty of defilement according to the provisions of section 139.

However, the magistrate, ordered the investigating Police Officer to duplicate and forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

She adjourned the case to May 8 for mention.
