A 75-year-old pensioner, Peter Ogboi, who can no longer tolerate the adulterous nature of his wife Mrs. Helen, appeared before an Igando Customary Court in Lagos, seeking to divorce his partner of 43 years.
The petitioner accused his wife, Helen, with whom he had eight children and some grand children of infidelity.
“In 2014, my wife started running after other men, sleeping about.
“I never believed she could engage in extramarital sex until I saw her walking out from a hotel with a co-landlord in our neighbourhood.
“She was shocked to see me but I greeted her.
“I bought two cars for her in the 1970s when she was very young. I did all I could for her but she prefers to be promiscuous and I cannot take it anymore,” the estranged man said.
Apart from engaging in adultery, Ogboi also told the court that his wife has reduced him to a houseboy as he does virtually everything for her.
“At my age, I still fetch water and wash my clothes. I do practically everything in the house for my wife but she is not satisfied.
“Though my children are against my action because she had poisoned their minds against me, I prefer to die than coexist with a woman that indulges in adultery,” the septuagenarian said.
The pensioner said that his wife has been starving him of sex since 2014.
“Helen deny me sex, she always said that she is too old for sex but she prefer given it to her lover.
“When I tried to marry another woman who is not old for sex and I brought her home for the first time, my wife bathed her with hot water which landed her in the Police Station.
“She threatened to kill me and any woman I bring home to marry, so I desist from marrying a new wife,” he said
He begged the court to terminate the marriage that he was no longer interested and that the love he once had for her had faded.
“I appeal to this Court to dissolve this marriage and eject Helen from my house because we cannot live together again.
However, Helen, denied all the allegations.
She said that she was not promiscuous that she went to the hotel to collect the money the said landlord was owing her.
The 65-year-old trader said that she do most of the house chores.
“I have been the one taking care of the house, besides, what is even wrong if my husband helps in doing house chores? After all, we are each other helper,” she said.
The respondent described her husband as an ungrateful man.
“When my husband was sick and bedridden, I packed his faeces and bathe him, now that he is well, he want to divorce me,” she explained.
The mother of eight made a fervent plea to the Court not to dissolve the marriage that she was still in love.
“Please, don’t grant him his wish, who will marry me at this my age, our marriage is for better for worse, she said
President of the Court, Mr Adegboyega Omilola adjourned the case to July 26 for further hearing.
