Rangers Lose To FC Taraba In 5-Goal Thriller

The 2014/205 Glo Nigeria Premier League season kicked off with a total of 12 goals scored in nine matches of MatchDay 1 played across the country, eyeonthesports.com reports.
Interestingly, the encounter between FC Taraba and Rangers International of Enugu played at the Jolly Nyame Stadium, which ended 3-2 in favour of the home side recorded the highest with five goals.
Rangers were tied 1-1 with the home side at half time before Abdulmalik Mohammed, who scored Taraba’s first goal converted a penalty to increase the tally to 2-1 barely two minutes into the second half.
In the 65th minute, substitute Nura Ahmed sealed victory for FC Taraba when he nodded home Yau Hassan’s cross to increase the tally to 3-1 against Rangers.
Samuel Agba however scored a face saving goal for Rangers in the 88th minute from FC Taraba’s defensive lapses to end the encounter 3-2.
The double header played on opening day, Saturday, 7 March at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt did not produce a single goal, as home sides; Dolphins FC and Sharks played goalless draws against Kwara United and Sunshine FC respectively.
On Sunday, 8 March, eyeonthesports.com reports that the seven matches played recorded 12 goals.
The match between runners up of the NPL last season, Enyimba and Akwa United ended in a goalless draw in Aba, Bayelsa United and Lobi Stars ended their match 1-1, while Onyekachi Nwaiwu scored during the last minutes of their match to earn Gabros, who were leading with a first half goal, a 2-0 victory against Warri Wolves.
Giwa FC played 0-0 with Abia Warriors, El-Kanemi pipped Nasarawa 1-0 and Wikki beat 3SC 2-0.
