Rangers Down El-Kanemi In Glo NPL Match

Ranger’s international football club of Enugu started the second stanza of the Glo Nigeria Premier League on a victorious note sending El kanemi warriors back empty handed after a deserved 2-0 scoreline.
The match which started with the Desert Warriors asking all the questions in the first 45 minutes lived up to its top class billing but it was the visitors that went missing begging chances.
In what looked like a revenge mission, the Flying Antelopes came into the second half of the game more purposeful and organised well to the delight of their supporters who had thronged the 30,000 seater Nnamdi Azikiwe stadium expecting a victory.
Expectations had been high in Enugu after it had emerged that the players have been paid some of their outstanding bonuses at the weekend.
With two substitutions that brought in Stephen Adah for new signing from Kaduna United Samuel Agba on the 37th minute and Chinedu Udeagba replacing Obinna Nwobodo in the second half, Rangers pegged their visitors.
Emeka Eze then found the net on the 55th minute from the spot after El-kanemi’s defender handled the ball in his six yard box. Three minutes later (58th) Osagona ighodaro made it two with a sublime shoot from outside the 18 yard box of the Warriors beating George Michael who had no answer to the strike. It was Osagona’s 11 goal of the season and which made him the season’s leading scorer.
Salisu Yusuf of El-kanemi blamed the defeat to loss of concentration on the part of his boys and the determination of Rangers side who took their chances in the second half of the impressive encounter.
“We conceded a penalty and we lost control of the game after which they got their second goal. The penalty was okay and so was the second goal. It’s a young team and you can see they bent their heads after the spot kick but if you can observe we had like three to four chances to score but we did not and that is football for you” said Yusuf.
For Rangers Manager, John Obuh, “it is like the beginning of the league for us, especially playing in front of our home fans. That was why we found it a little difficult in the first half but it was very important that we win and the win came the way we wanted hoping we are able to defend the win by getting a victory away in our next game.”
