After being fed up with taking care of their children alone, a 41-year-old Rafiat Akanbi has approached the Msgistrate Court in Mapo, Ibadan Oyo State for the dissolution of their marriage of 16 years that has produced four children.
She also appealed to the court to restrain his husband from coming to her workplace and also seeking the custody of the children.
“My husband is highly irresponsible to an extent that he does not cater for the upkeep of the children. He packed out of our house seven years ago and has since not bothered to check how his family is faring”, she said.
She also narrated that she lost one of their children to the cold hands of death when the child in question was ill and was in need of blood, but there was no support from the husband”, she told the Court.
Responding to her wife’s allegations, 47 years old Yunusa Akanbi, a transporter told the Court to dissolve the union but he does not want his wife to take custody of their children.
“I packed out of our house to run for my life and that of my family. This was during the crisis of the NURTW and didn’t run away from my responsibilities as claimed by my wife.
“When my work was stable, I used to take care of my family but due to the situation of things, and my long absence from home, my children were staying with their mother”, he said.
Having listened to the couple, the Court President, Chief Odunade Ademola adjourned the case to 25 July for further hearing.
