Metro Pro League campaigners, AS Racine on Sunday emerged winners of this year’s edition of the Lagos FA Cup.
The Emmanuel Ibru-boys upsets Nigeria National League side, First Bank FC 4-3 via penalty kicks at the Onikan Stadium in one of the State final matches held across the country same day.
The tension soaked match produced no goal for the entire 90 minutes. AS Racine’s dangerman and Metro Pro League Player of the Month of March, Gafar Lasisi almost put his side ahead with several forays into the vital area of the Bankers but red-eye First Bank defenders thwarted his attempts.
An elated AS Racine General Manager, Mojeed Adegbidin stated that the club would adopt a scientific method to give the state an appreciable representation in the Federation Cup.
His words: “AS Racine have come to stay and the FA Cup win was a prove for our hardwork over the years.
“We play in the Metro Pro League and the fair competition in the league prepared us for this victory,” Adegbindin enthused. The FA Cup is AS Racine’s first trophy since 2001.
The club produced in-form Stoke City striker, Osaze Odemwingie and other top stars in the country and other teams in Europe.
