Prime Football Club produced a master class performance with a 2-0 win over Ekiti United Football Club in the opening day of the Nigeria National League season on Sunday.
The Omoluabi Giants kept their pre-season rather quiet and it clearly worked with Fatai Abdullah and Chukwuemeka Ogundu scoring to give Prime a deserved win over the Oshoko Boys.
Abdullah was on target with a 49th minute penalty while Ogundu’s 82nd minute strike sealed a crucial victory for the home team at the Federal Polytechnic Ede Sports Complex.
Prime created more chances and dominated ball possession but wasteful in front of goal, to end the first half goalless with Ekiti United goalkeeper, Anibor Emmanuel, making remarkable saves including a 30th minute penalty.
Former Ekiti United attacker, Damola Fakayode got into the act of terrorizing his former team’s defence, which resulted in the second penalty after United goalkeeper, Anibor Emmanuel obstructed a goal bound move.
Abdullah stepped up to covert the spot kick, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
The second goal by Prime was a classic as substitute striker, Ogundu scored from a fierce shot which gave the visiting goalkeeper no chance.
Ekiti United had their opportunities too but a lackluster performance from their strikers let them down on several occasions.
It remains to be seen how far Prime will go this season but their bright start against the Ekiti Boys proves they have the prospects of performing well this season.
Meanwhile, Media Officer of Prime FC, Tunde Shamsudeen said Prime FC are gearing up to face Ikorodu United FC away at the Agege Stadium, Lagos next weekend in a NNL Week 2 fixture.
