Kano Pillars captain, goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai believes the league champions are capable of breaking the Glo Premier League Super 4 jinx this time considering their level of preparations and support from the management.
Afelokhai who accompanied Coach Okey Emordi to the post-match conference after they dispatched Dolphins 2-0 in the opening game of the tournament attributed their victory to the determination of the players to play for each other and also show appreciation to the club management for attending to their needs.
“We are playing as a team and everyone understands that we must support each other which was the reason we defeated Dolphins,” the goalkeeper explained.
“It is the same spirit that we will take into the Champions League to do well more than we have ever done in the competition.”
He reasoned that the Masu Gida side must have to win the Super 4 to pass the message that they are the true league champions.
“We want to start the year with a trophy and the opening victory has given us confidence to go ahead and win the remaining games,” he said.
The Kano State Government recently constituted a committee headed by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as Chairman and former NFF President, Ibrahim Galadima as the Vice Chairman. This, Afelokhai said has been a morale booster for the players noting that, “the way things are going now, we believe we can go far. We have now got a good board that will be working to ensure our off-field needs are met.”
