champions of the Glo Nigeria Premier League, NPL, Kano Pillars are inching nearer the title once again, and if they finish up with just a draw in their last match on Sunday, they would retain the diadem.
With 63 points from 37 games, Pillars grabbed maximum points in Wednesday’s match, against Dolphins at the Lokoja Stadium in Kogi State. At the Akure Township Stadium on Wednesday, Enyimba of Aba failed to capitalise on the moment to increase their points haul, as they lost 0-2 to Sunshine Star, thus maintaining their 60 points and playing themselves out of the title range.
Phillip Auta scored Sunshine’s goal in the first half, while Ebenezer Odunlami second half header gave the Akure side a comfortable home victory.
Sunshine’s Coach Fatai Amoo praised his team for playing the game of their lives, and rated the NPL season as a very competitive one.
Bayelsa United also grabbed a 2-1 win at the expense of Kwara United, while Sharks drubbed Nasarawa United 3-1 at the Garden City in Port Harcourt.
The Abubakar Saraki Boys, ABS whitewashed Nembe City 6-1 at the Illorin Stadium, the biggest win of the mid-week matches.
