Pillars Out Of Champions League

Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL champions, Kano Pillars have been knocked out of the 2014 CAF Champions League.
Pillars, who won the elite league trophy in Nigeria last season, were sent packing in the first round of the continental competition by AS Vita of DR Congo.
Pillars defeated AS Vita 2-1 in Saturday’s return leg match at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, but failed to overturn a 3-1 deficit they suffered in DR Congo last week, and lost out on 4-3 aggregate.
Etekiama Agiti gave visiting AS Vita a first minute lead, before Pillars fought back to draw level in the 66th minute through a header by Kabiru Umar.
Pillars’ Abdul Haruna scored their winning goal four minutes after their first goal, but the Nigerian side failed to score the decisive goal that would have at least taken the game to a penalty shootout.
It would be recalled that Pillars won the NPL in 2011-2012 season in Nigeria, but crashed out in the same manner to AC Leopards of Congo Brazzaville in the first round of the CAF competition.
