Three time Glo Nigeria Premier League champions, Kano Pillars Football Club will begin the defence of their title against Heartland Football Club of Owerri come first week of March, 2015, eyeonthesports.com reports.
Pillars, who finished third at the Super 4 Pre-Season Invitational Tournament held at Abuja National Stadium recently, were drawn against the Owerri side in the 2014/2015 Glo NPL Match Day 1 fixtures held during the Draw ceremony in Abuja on Wednesday, 18 February.
Pillars look rock solid to start their campaign on the road to Owerri, as the Coach Okey Emordi-tutored team have been impressive in recent games.
Eyeonthesports.com recalls that Pillars endured some trying moments at the Glo Super 4, held to prepare top Nigerian Premier League clubs for the coming season, where they finished in the third position.
The Kano-based side however picked up strongly to end their pre-season tour of Ghana with a 1-0 win over Ghana’s U-23 national team in Accra on Saturday, 7 February.
Before that match, Pillars played a 2-2 draw with Accra Hearts of Oak on Thursday, 5 February in Ghana, and proceeded to South Sudan to flag off their 2015 CAF Champions League campaign with a convincing 2-0 victory against hosts, Al-Malakia Football Club.
Pillars will host Al-Malakia in the second leg, first round match of their CAF Champions League in Kano on 1 March, before moving to Owerri to battle Heartland in their first Glo Nigeria Premier League fixture a week after.
Meanwhile, from the Match Day 1 fixtures released at the Draw ceremony on Wednesday, runners up of NPL last season, Enyimba International of Aba will host Akwa United, promoted clubs from Nigeria National League, NNL, Wikki Tourists and Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC of Ibadan will tango in Bauchi, while El-Kanemi Warriors battle Nasarawa United.
The other opening fixtures are; Sharks vs Sunshine Stars,
Dolphins vs Kwara United, Giwa FC vs Abia Warriors, Bayelsa United vs Lobi Stars, Gabros FC vs Warri Wolves and FC Taraba vs Rangers.
