Petkovic Beats Pennetta To Win WTA Title

Germany’s Andrea Petkovic claimed her third title of 2014 with victory at the WTA Tournament of Champions in Sofia on Sunday.

According to bbcsports report, the world number 17 beat Italy’s Flavia Pennetta 1-6, 6-4 and 6-3 in a pulsating final that lasted more than two hours.

Petkovic, 27, was broken three times in a disastrous first set but recovered to edge the next two.

It is the first time clay-court specialist Petkovic, who reached the French Open semi finals earlier this year, has ever won a hard-court title.
