For allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl, a 48-year-old Pastor, Adekunle Alao, has been arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Alao, a resident of Dopemu area of Lagos, is being tried for defilement.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Clifford Ogu, the accused committed the offence on April 4 at his residence.
He said that the accused unlawfully had sexual intercourse with a girl under the pretense of carrying out “deliverance” on her.
“The accused who claimed that the girl who is a member of his church belong to water goddess, asked her to come for deliverance.
“He ordered her to come along with soap, anointing oil and a handkerchief for the deliverance,” he said.
Ogu said that when the girl got to his office with the consent of her mother, instead of the accused to conduct the said deliverance, he had canal knowledge of her.
“The accused asked her to remove her clothes which she did and he started romancing her. He lain her on his table and inserted his manhood into the girl’s private part.
“He threatened to kill her if she tell anybody what transpired between them,” he said.
The prosecutor said that the girl was complaining of severe stomach pain when she got home.
“Her mother became worried when her daughter was crying of stomach ache, she took her to their church pastor, who is the accused for prayers.
“The accused prayed for the girl and asked the mother to take her home for God’s intervention and divine visitation.
“After enough persuasion, the girl told her mother that it was the accused, that had sex with her,” he said.
The offence contravened section 139 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. Section 139 prescribes life imprisonment as penalty for defilement.
The accused pleaded innocence of the offence and was granted bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs T. Akanni adjourned the case until May 5 for mention.
