The Oyo State Amateur Boxing Association (OSABA) has concluded plans to commence a boxing academy, where parents can bring their wards to as early as five years for tutelage in boxing.

The OSABA boss, Chief Baron Akintunde Opaleye who disclosed this in Ibadan on Saturday, said forms are now out for the boxing academy established and named after the late foremost boxing promoter Chief Francis Aiyegbeni.

Opaleye said the aim is to encourage the public and correct the negative notion that is always ascribed to boxing as a sport in this part of our world as a game only for ruffians.

“The recent success of Nigerian born British boxer, Anthony Joshua has elicited the interest of the game in the minds of many Nigerians. So, now is the time to launch the academy and the idea has received nods from notable stakeholders” he said.

The OSABA boss also added that coaches with good manners that are experts in handling the beginners have been employed by the association to attend to the kids, while the form can be obtained at Francis Aiyegbeni Boxing Gym, located inside the Walan Hotel, formerly known as D’Rovans Hotel in Ring Road, Ibadan.
