Rivers Angels were beaten 2-1 by Osun Babes in one of the Week 18 games of the Nigeria Women’s Premier League (NWPL) in Ede, Osun State.
Osun Babes drew the first blood in the 69th minute from a goal mouth scramble by Ganiyat Adeleke.
Ebere Orji equalized 4 minutes later from a corner taken by Ngozi Ebere. Rivers Angels held on hoping to stretch their lead on the NWPL table with an away point.
But Mary Faiki wrapped up the game for the host with a deflected shot from the Angels defender, Onyinyechi Ohadugha with two minutes to regulation time making it difficult for the table toppers to have a comeback in the game.
Coach of Osun Babes, Kehinde Johnson was happy to end Rivers Angels unbeaten run.
“I am very happy that my team were the first to end Rivers Angels unbeaten run”, he said.
‘”My girls followed my instructions which worked for us in the end. The three points is what matters to me because my team will be among the top 3 on the league table, said Johnson”.
Rivers Angels coach, Edwin Okon blamed his side”s loss to poor officiating.
“This is the worst officiating I have ever experienced. They don’t get such treatment
when they come to play in Port Harcourt, said Okon”.
