Reports say two prominent African sports personalities, Nigeria’s Sunday Oliseh and South Africa’s Carol Tshabalala have been engaged by the organisers of the 2013 Glo-CAF Awards to anchor the prestigious event scheduled for 9 January in Lagos.
It was gathered that Oliseh, a Nigerian ex-international and former Super Eagles’ captain and Tshabalala, an award winning South African sport television presenter, MC, radio presenter and ring announcer (Boxing), will add glamour to the event scheduled for Eko Hotel Convention Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos.
A prolific defensive midfielder in his playing days, Oliseh played for popular clubs such as AFC Ajax of Holland, Borussia Dortmund (Germany) and Juventus F.C. of Italy.
Currently a football pundit, Oliseh, played 63 international matches, scoring four goals for Nigeria. He played at the World Cups of 1994 and 1998. He was also a member of the Nigerian Olympic gold medal winning football team of 1996.
He is mostly remembered for scoring the winning goal in the group stage match against Spain in the 1998 World Cup, as Nigeria prevailed 3–2. A throw-in deep in the Spanish half, headed clear by a defender, was met by an on-rushing Oliseh who fired an explosive shot from 25 yards that took Spanish goalkeeper Andoni Zubizarreta completely by surprise.
Oliseh, who captained Nigeria during the 2002 African Cup of Nations, retired from professional football in January 2006 at the age of 31. He was recently tipped for the position of Head of Technical Department at the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF.
Tshabalala on the other hand is a foremost sports television presenter and journalist. She currently anchores various programmes on Football, Boxing and Rugby for Supersports and she is a regular feature on their channels. She also presents her own show- “Love PSL” which focuses on football lifestyle and is aired every Tuesday on SS4 and Supersport HD.
