Oduokpe Wins Glo League Wonder Goal Award

Oghogho Alex Oduokpe has become the third player in the Glo Nigeria Premier League to be voted winner of the Wonder Goals competition instituted by the League Management Company, LMC.
His goal emerged winner for the weekly Wonder Goals competition running from September 14 to 21, 2014.
The Wonder Goal Award is another Corporate Social Responsibility, CSR, initiative of the League Management Company, LMC, which aims to reward players who scored spectacular goals and also support local charity as a strategy to deepen the leagues engagement with its public.
Oduokpe, who now plays for Bayelsa United, won the third series of the Wonder Goals competition by virtue of his goal while playing for Sunshine Stars against Dolphins on 29 March, in Port Harcourt.
The striker struck a free kick with his left foot into the top corner past Dolphins goalkeeper, Austin Brown; to give Sunshine Stars the lead in a game they eventually lost 2-1 at the Sharks Stadium.
Oduokpe’s wonder goal polled 59.3% of the total votes to beat those of Daniel Etor of Enyimba and Olufemi Oladapo of Bayelsa United to second and third places respectively.
Etor’s goal, a left-footed strike into the roof of the post against Sunshine Stars in Aba, finished second with 25.9% of the votes.
Bayelsa midfielder, Oladapo, got 14.8% of the total votes for his pile-driving of a goal against Rangers in a match that finished 4-3 in favour of his team at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City.
Interestingly, Oladapo’s goal led by 66.7% at some point during the voting process while Oduokpe had 33.3% and Etor had no votes.
Midway into the voting period for the Wonder Goals, Oduokpe and Oladapo were tied on 40% apiece while Etor had 20% of the votes before Oduokpe’s goal amassed an additional 19.3% of the votes to emerge winner.
Oduokpe now joins the Rangers pair of Christian Osaguona Ighodaro and Emeka Eze as winners of the Wonder Goals. He will be rewarded with N100,000 and half of the amount will be donated to a charity organisation of his choice within the location of his club.
The Wonder Goal Award is a social media interactive scheme that aims to showcase video of goals scored by players in the Glo Nigeria Premier League, and also to recognize the collective and individual qualities that produced some of the goals.
The scheme offers fans the opportunity to see some of the best goals scored in the 2013/14 Glo Premier League season, and also to vote for the goal they consider the best.
It follows on the heels of the social cohesion messages and health awareness campaign launched by the league organizers through its media platforms and at match venues.
