The Nigerian Water Ski & Wakeboard Federation (NWWF), has honoured the Sports Minister/Chairman National Sports Commission, Dr. Tammy Danagogo for “his commendable passion and efforts in sports development in Nigeria as well as his support for the approval and introduction of the Nigerian Water Ski & Wakeboard Federation in Nigeria”.
The delegation of NWWF, led by its founder and President, Ambassador Rachel Bakam was received at the National Sports Commission on Tuesday 5 May, 2015 by the Sports Minister in his office.
The visit to the Sports Commission, according to Ambassador Bakam, is to further strengthen their relationship with the Commission and seek support for the advancement of the sport in Nigeria.
The Minister who expressed appreciation for the award, commended the NWWF for its passion despite the absence of required funding and support, stressing that the NWWF should work hard to ensure that the water ski & Wakeboarding sport facilities are developed across the country.
The delegation thereafter proceeded to the office of Mallam Al-Hassan Yakmut, the Acting Director General of the National Sports Commission to congratulate and wish him well in his new assignment.
Coincidentally, the visit coincided with Mallam Yakmut’s 54th birthday and the elated Ag. Director General was full of praise for the NWWF, complimenting the Federation’s independent effort at growing the new sport in the country.
The NWWF’s officials surprised him with a congratulatory gift depicting the Federation’s goodwill wishes for his new office.
Meanwhile the NWWF is at the moment preparing to visit Turkey in July this year for preliminary training on the use of facilities as well as a courtesy visit relentlessly and against all odds.
The delegation will be made up of a Director of the National Sports Commission in charge of facility development, patrons, investors and officials of the NWWF, Ambassador Bakam disclosed.
She added that soon, facilities will be established around the country and doors opened for membership while the NWWF will have an athlete to represent Nigeria at the World Championship in Shanghai later in the year.
