The Nigeria Tennis Federation, NTF has disclosed that the outgoing year will end with a national junior championship which will take place in Minna, Niger State, northern Nigeria.
The Federation’s spokesperson, Mrs. Gloria Ekwempu-Chinwuko, who made this disclosure to eyeonthesports.com this week, explained that the tourney will also help prepare the players for the forthcoming African Junior Championship, AJC next year.
According to her; “There will still be a tournament before the year ends. The Mariam Babangida National Junior Tennis Championship will be staged in Minna Niger State.
“It will hold from 29 December, 2013 to 4 January, 2014 and it will help the players with their preparations towards the AJC qualifiers early next year”.
She added that; “The players have started registering for the tournament but at the moment, I don’t have a precise number of them who have registered. We shall keep you posted as things unfold”.
The initial plans by NTF to stage a National Championship in Ilorin Kwara State, to honour former governor of the state, Bukola Saraki, has been suspended, as the Federation says it could not get sponsors to bankroll the event.
