Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan on Sunday at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba in Ibadan defeated their South West arch rivals, Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure by a lone goal.
The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Match Day 22 South West derby lived up to its billing as both teams gave very good account of themselves with Sunshine Stars parading three former players of the Oluyole Warriors in Thomas Adesina, Tope Orelope and Ebitimi Aogo.
The game proper started on a very fast tempo with 3SC’s first incursion at Sunshine’s goal area producing the only goal of the match in the 5th minute through Ibrahim Ajani following Sunday Faleye’s pass.
Sunshine Stars scored what looked like a very good goal in the 39th minute but it was disallowed by the Centre Referee to the dismay of Sunshine’s bench.
However, the introduction of Wasiu Jimoh in the second half added more bite to Shooting Stars attack with Wasiu, having three shots at goal and two went wide.
Speaking to newsmen after the match, the Technical Adviser of Sunshine Stars, Augustine Eguavoen, a former Coach of Nigeria’s Super Eagles, said he was satisfied with the level of play by both teams.
He said Sunshine Stars came with a game plan that did not work, while 3SC Coach Fatai Amoo described the game as a very difficult one as expected, giving the pedigree of Sunshine Technical Crew and the quality of their team.
