Nigeria Woman ‘Jailed’ For Distributing Petrol In Lagos Party

A Lagos State Special Crimes Court (Mobile) based in Oshodi has sentenced a socialite, Chidinma Ogbulu, to two years in prison for distributing gasoline as a souvenir during a party.

Chief Magistrate Kehinde Ogundare convicted and sentenced the socialite following her guilty plea on Thursday and evidence from the prosecution.

The judge held that the prosecution had proven its case against the socialite beyond any reasonable doubt, according to a statement from the Lagos state Ministry of Justice on Friday.

The socialite was first prosecuted on March 14 for distributing gasoline as a souvenir during her installation party on March 5 at the Havillah Events Center in Lagos state.

She pleaded not guilty at the time, but changed her plea to guilty on Thursday when the case went to court.

Ogundare sentenced the socialite to three months in prison or a fine of N15,000 for count one of the three charges, and one year in prison or a fine of N500,000 for count two.
