‘Nigeria Taekwondo Team’ll Rule The World’

Ferguson Oluigbo, the President of Taekwondo Referees’ Association of Nigeria, TRAN, has expressed confidence in the performance of the team which would represent the country at the World Taekwondo Team Cup Championship.
Oluigbo said he was optimistic the Nigerian team would put up good performances at the competition, sated for Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire from 28-30 November.
The TRAN president said he was also confident the team would excel as they had prepared well for the games.
“I am very confident in the abilities of my athletes. We have worked harder and prepared well for the competition since the beginning of the year.
“In addition, the boys have been dedicated to training and have performed brilliantly at previous local competitions organised in the country”, he said.
The referee said he would ensure the team are not over-confident during their bouts, saying he was sure it would impede their reasoning capacity.
“Over-confidence is as bad as lack of confidence because it usually beclouds an athlete’s judgment.
“It also makes an athlete to be vulnerable to co-ordinated attacks from the opponent”, he said.
Oluigbo said the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire would avail the country’s athletes the opportunity to improve on their rankings towards qualification for the Rio 2016 Olympics.
He added that their participation would improve their knowledge in the sport; “and they will not be shocked whenever they compete with their foreign counterparts at any international competition”.
