Nigeria To Revive High Altitude Training Camp

Alhaji Abdullahi Idris, the North-East Co-ordinator, National Sports Commission (NSC), has said the commission would soon commence the renovation of the High Altitude Training Camp at Gembu in Taraba State, Nigeria.
Idris said in Jalingo that the renovation of the facility was expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2014.
“The Minister of Sports/NSC Chairman, Bolaji Abdullahi has directed that the renovation of the Gembu camp should be given utmost priority.
“The Stadium and Facilities Department of the commission has been mandated to ensure that the camp is in good shape for visiting athletes, come 2014”, he said.
The zonal co-ordinator said the inability to utilise the facility had led all the problems the country has had in athletics.
“The mountainous nature of Gembu has made the camp very suitable for endurance training.
“When training fully resumes in the camp, Nigeria will continue to produce athletes that can compete effectively in international competitions”, he said
