By Tunde Oyedele –
Sunshine Stars attacker Newman Musa believes this weekend’s Glo Nigeria Premier league, NPL, Match-Day 24 fixture against Dolphins FC at Akure Stadium is another opportunity for him to exhibit his goal scoring talent, eyeonthesports.com reports.
Newman, who moved to Sunshine from NPL struggling side Nembe Football Club during the mid-season transfer window, has scored thrice in his two home matches for Sunshine.
Before his transfer to Sunshine Stars last month, Newman scored the lone goal which helped Nembe City beat Dolphins in a Week 14 NPL match at the Omoku Stadum, and the fast striker is eyeing a repeat performance in Saturday’s encounter.
“Having scored against Dolphins this season, I know the club very well. Dolphins have quality players and are a big team. However, such high profile game brings out the best in me”, Newman told eyeonthesports.com in a recent interview.
Newman, a great ball passer who equally has shooting and heading abilities scored in his debut match for Sunshine against former club Nembe when the second round kicked off on Sunday 27 July in Akure.
Eyeonthesports.com recalls that the fast rising NPL star gave Sunshine value for signing him when he scored a brace in last Sunday’s 3-0 bashing of champions Kano Pillars at their home ground.
Although, he came in as a substitute in his first game for the Gunners, Coach Henry Abiodun is likely to start Newman, an emerging ‘Star’ in his Sunshine’s squad against Dolphins this time around.
Sunshine who are 9th on the NPL log with 33 points lost by a lone goal to Giwa FC in their midweek match away from home, and would want to bounce back against Dolphins who are third on the table with 37 points.
The players to do the job for Sunshine include returnee Ibrahim Ajani, Dele Olorundare, Prince Agrrey, who scored against Pillars last weekend, Sina Adeoye who has good work rate, Itodo Cletus, Kingsley Edowo, Angur Emmanuel and goalkeeper Henry Ayodele, who has been doing a great job for the team since number one goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa was side lined by groin injury.
For Dolphins, the Garden City team are equally ambitious and may surprise their hosts based on their steady rise on the NPL table this second term.
Dolphins spanked Crown Football Club of Ogbomosho 2-0 on Wednesday at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, an assurance that Coach Stanley Eguma can lead the team to claim the NPL title this season.
Number one goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi has worked hard enough to keep his position against Sunshine, while regulars Chizoba Amaefule, Jonathan Zikiye, Emeka Atuloma, Emmanuel Olowo and Victor Ezuruike are looking forward to the Akure battle.
Chidiebere Okolie, Tijani Adamu and Isiaka Olawale who came in as a substitute in Dolphins’ midweek match are also available for the mouth-watering encounter against Sunshine.
