Super Eagles of Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel is celebrating his first league goal for English Premier League side, Chelsea.

Mikel scored his first Barclays English Premier League goal, as Chelsea defeated Fulham 2-0 in the west London derby at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Chelsea rebounded from their worst start to a league season in 10 years by grinding out a victory over Fulham. Oscar and John Mikel Obi scored second-half goals as the Blues moved top of the Premier League on goal difference.

“What else can I say, it was in there at last, I’m glad the goal finally came, but I’m very happy we won as a team, he told the media.”

The visitors created the best chance of a dull first half but Darren Bent shot straight at Blues keeper Petr Cech, while Mikel played his usual calm game before being rewarded with the long awaited goal in about seven years.

Oscar settled Chelsea’s nerves with a close-range finish before Mikel hooked in the winner few minutes to full time.  The result took Chelsea above Liverpool at the top of the table, although any one of Arsenal, Tottenham, Manchester City or Manchester United could leapfrog the Blues after Sunday’s matches.
