Young Nigerian female tennis player, Mary-Love Edwards, was the cynosure of all eyes as she white-washed her opponent, Rasaq Hassan, 9-0 yesterday in the ongoing Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Junior tennis open inside the Lord Rumen’s Court of the Lagos Lawn Tennis Court, Onikan, Lagos.
The petite Mary-Love, who looked dangerous throughout the encounter, was no match for her robust opponent from Kwara State, as she kept a calm composure to win the match.
In a chat with eyeonthesports.com after the game, the nine-year old wonder kid said, “I was not scared of her before we played, although she looked much bigger than I expected.
“I just remembered everything that we do in training and I kept doing them again and again”.
She also added that, “I am looking forward to winning in this category because I lost to Fortune Anisio in the final last year”.
A disappointed Hassan told our correspondent after the game that although Mary-Love looked small in size, her tennis instinct was much ‘bigger’.
“I have been playing tennis for some time but this is my first major tournament and I must say that I was quite disappointed with my performance.
“But looking at Mary-Love, she is a player for the future”, the 16-year old noted.
