A 44-year-old father, Idris Abu has been charged for fingering his two-year-old daughter, eyeonthenews.com reports.
Our reporter was at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday, 9 February, 2017, where the court slammed a N500,000 bail on Idris Abu for his indecent act to his own daughter.
Abu, a resident of Agege Area of Lagos, is being tried for indecent assault of his child. The Prosecutor, Sgt. Rachael Donny, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on February 2 at his residence.
Donny said that the accused unlawfully assaulted his two-year-old daughter sexually by fingering her private part.
“The accused always inserted one of his figures into his baby’s private part ignoring her crying,” Donny said.
The prosecutor said that the child’s mother later discovered the atrocity after the girl complained of pain in her private part.
“The baby used to cry in the middle of the night, but the accused will not allow the mother to enter, he always tell her to go back to sleep that the baby is crying because she is feeling heat.
“A day came when the accused’s wife could no longer bear her baby’s cry. She forced the door opened, rushed in and caught her husband naked with his manhood erected and his finger in their daughter’s vagina,” he said.
According to the prosecutor, whenever the victim’s mother confronted him, he always threatened her with divorce.
The offence, Donny said, contravened Section 135 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Mr T.A Elias granted the accused bail after he pleaded not guilty to the charge. Elias ordered that the accused should produce two sureties as a condition for the bail.
The magistrate ordered the investigating police officer to duplicate and forward the case file to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice. He adjourned the case to February 16 for mention.
Section 135 prescribed seven years imprisonment if found guilty of the offence.
