Determined Lagos Junior League, LJL, Premiership side, Kosofe Football Club put up a good show last weekend, defeating hard fighting Ajeromi Ifelodun 2-1 in their Week 4 match played at the Legacy training pitch of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.
Both sides played the game of their lives with Ajeromi Ifelodun making some good runs with the ball right from the blast of the whistle, while their Kosofe opponents started with some cautious moves.
Barely 60 seconds into the encounter, Jegede Sunday broke though Ajeromi Ifelodun’s rear, and netted the opener to give Kosofe a deserved lead. The early goal expectedly raised the tempo of the match, as Matthew Samson, spotting jersey number 15 scored a breath taking equalizer in the 12th minute.
Sensing that Ajeromi Ifelodun may capitalize on their equalizer and rejuvenated strength to score another goal, Coach Omodudu Ibrahim changed Kosofe’s defensive style of play, and urged his team to take the game to their guests in the encounter.
The approach paid off, as Kosofe earned two corner kicks within three minutes, while Ajeromi Ifelodun tried to soak the pressure. Unfortunately for Ajeromi Ifelodun, their defender hard tackled Kosofe’s striker inside the 18 yard box, resulting in the 24th minute penalty kick.
