The 2014/2015 Glo Nigeria Premier League season finally kicked off as scheduled on Saturday, 7 March, with only two of the MatchDay 1 games played.
However, two goalless draws were recorded in the double header played at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt.
First, it was Dolphins Football Club who were held to 0-0 scoreline by promoted Kwara United of Ilorin in the opening match, which started at 2pm.
The 10-man Kwara United forced the home side to play their pattern as they maintained a barren draw from blast of the whistle till end of regulation time.
The exit of goalkeeper Suraj Aiyeleso due to a red card in the 88th minute did not change the scoreline.
Kwara United locked their rear with Isiaka Oladuntoye and Akim Onigbari providing enough cover for their goalkeeper.
Kwara United would have been ahead barely three minutes into the match as Adeshina Gata failed to beat goalkeeper Sunday Rotimi.
Omoh Johnson also had a rare chance wasted in the match while
Evans Iyoro forced a big save from Rotimi.
in the 88th minute, Aiyeleso was sent off following a foul on Chigozie Ihundainside the marked area, but the home team could not score in the tension-soaked encounter.
Same day at the same Stadium in Port Harcourt, Sharks Football club were also held to a goalless draw by Sunshine Stars of Akure.
What could have been the star match of the opening day between Heartland FC and Kano Pillars failed to hold as robbers attacked players of the latter on their way to Owerri on Thursday.
The other seven matches are slated for Sunday, 8 March.
