Jonathan Receives Women’s FIFA World Cup

Nigeria’s President, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GCFR) has received the FIFA Women’s World Cup troohy, which is on a tour of all 24 nations that have qualified to take part in the seventh edition of the global finals in Canada this summer.
At a forum with Nigeria’s Young Professionals at the Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos on Sunday night, NFF president Amaju Melvin Pinnick introduced the surprise addition to the programme, towards the end, with FIFA Development Officer Rahman Zelkifli Ngoufonja presenting the original diadem to the country’s leader, about two hours after the U-20 National Team, Flying Eagles, swept aside Africa to win a seventh continental title in Dakar, Senegal.
Ngoufonja, who was accompanied by Marie-Paule Blohoua Epse and Diallo Souleymane, spoke of his great delight at personally handing over the glittering trophy to Nigeria’s leader, emphasizing that Nigeria is the best in women’s football in Africa and one of the best in the world. He also presented a ball to President Jonathan.
Players of the Super Falcons and an assistant coach joined President Jonathan on stage to take photos with the big prize, as Nigeria looks forward to a seventh appearance at the FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Canada, scheduled for 6 June to 5 July this summer.
The African champions will play USA, Sweden and Australia in Group D at the finals.
