The 2014 Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Invitational Tournament enters the quarter final stage on Thursday with Sunday Maku of Nigeria exchanging strokes with Zimbabwe’s Takanyi Garanganga in one of the games at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan.
Also, Nonso Madueke will play against Michale Moses in the Men’s Singles, while Women’s top Seed, Zarah Razafinmahatratra from Madagascar battles Osareimen Airhunwunde.
Aanu Aiyegbusi will go to war against Blessing Samuel, while Sarah Adegoke faces Loila Kienka in another Women’s Singles match.
Meanwhile, the 14th Governor’s Cup witnessed some interesting results in the
second round on Wednesday. In the Men’s Singles, top seed Takanyi Garanganga from Zimbabwe beat Sunday Emmanuel of Nigeria 4-6, 6-3 and 1-0 (retired), Sunday Maku defeated Paul Christian 6-1, 6-3, Nonso Madueke stopped Shehu Lawal in straight sets of 6-1,6-2.
In the other results, Monday Igbinovia beat Tswako Abubakar 1-6,6-2,6-3, Henry Atseye out-stroked beat Bikom Albert 6-4,5-4 (retired), and Moses Michael beat Clifford Enosoregbe 7-6 (2), 6-2.
The results of the Women’s Singles matches are; Top Seed, Zarah Razafinmahatratra from Madagascar, who drew bye in first round defeated Nigerian Faith Sunday 6-0,6-0, Lolia Kienka beat Beauty Mcleod 6-4,7-5, Blessing Samuel beat Omotayo Ibrahim 6-1,6-1, Patience Onebamhion beat Loveth Donatus 6-4,6-1, Ronke Akingbade lost to Osareimen Airhunwunde 6-2, 4-6, 3-6, Nosakhaire Esorae lost to Aanu Aiyegbusi 4-6, 3-6, Sarah Adegoke defeated Aminat Quadri 6-7,6-3,6-1.
