Nigerian players experienced mixed fortunes on Day One of the Main Draws of the ongoing Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis Open holding at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, TBS, Lagos, Nigeria.
Wild card entrant, Sarah Adegoke was the first victim of the day, as she lost to China’s Xi-Yao Wang 0-6,0-6 under forty-two minutes. Sarah’s strokes were too weak on her debut in the International Tennis Federation, ITF-rated championship.
The teenage sensation told eyeonthesports.com after the match that she lost to a better player and because she had not practised much coming into the tournament.
“I did not practise as much as I would have loved to because I have been playing against my dad as my only sparring partner.
“More so, the Chinese was a better player and the win justified her level of preparation for the championship”, she explained.
