Goalkeeper Akpeyi Shines As Bafana Hold Eagles

Warri Wolves FC goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi made his presence count with a good debut performance for Nigeria in an international friendly match which ended 1-1 against South Africa in Nelspruit on Sunday, eyeonthesports.com reports.
The Super Eagles were coasting home to victory with Ahmed Musa’s 85th minute goal but lost concentration and allowed the Bafana Bafana to bounce back with an added time equaliser scored by Bongani Zungu from close range.
Akpeyi was Nigeria’s Man of the Match after making some brilliant saves for the Eagles, including a 62nd minute penalty he stopped from Andile Jali.
Stand-in captain Musa replicated his first goal against Argentina at the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals, when his perfectly curled shot beat Itumeleng Khune for Nigeria’s only goal.
Right back Leon Balogun also replicated his brilliant performance against Uganda in Uyo on Wednesday but suffered an injury in the tie.
Odion Ighalo and John Ogu who had half chances embraced profligacy when Nigeria should have increased the tally, while the defenders also lost concentration towards end of the encounter.
The injury-time goal denied Nigeria an eighth win over South Africa in 12 matches at the senior level.
The Nigeria delegation is expected back in Abuja in the early hours of Monday, 30 March.
