The ancient city of Ibadan in Oyo State, southwest Nigeria will be agog on Sunday, 21 June, as darling team of the State, Shooting Stars Sports Club, 3SC battle Enyimba International of Aba in a Glo Nigeria Premier League match.
The clash, slated for Adamasingba Stadium, is one of the mouth watering games of Match Day 13 fixtures of the elite league in Nigeria this weekend, as high flying Sunshine Stars host champions, Kano Pillars in Akure, while Rangers will also confront Warri Wolves in Warri same day.
3SC, who have been having it a bit rough since promoting to the Premier League, are playing themselves back into reckoning, especially with the arrival of former Sharks of Port-Harcourt Coach, Gbenga Ogunbote.
The Oluyole Warriors have suffered some losses this season including a home match to Heartland of Owerri, but Coach Ogunbote says Sunday’s match is not likely to go same way.
“As you can see, this will my third match in charge and we have been working hard to instill a winning mentality in the team. I have told the players to raise their game because Enyimba are a big team. I know that Shooting Stars will not be pushovers as the season progresses”, he said.
Ogunbote has led the Ibadan side to grab four of six available points since he took over 3SC from former Coach, Franklin Howard.
Ogunbote’s first match in charge saw Shooting Stars drubbing Lobi Star 3-0 at Adamasingba Stadium, and he snatched a point in their last game away to Bayelsa United.
3SC are currently 15th on the log with only 12 points from 11 matches with a game in hand and would rise to a comfortable spot if they beat Enyimba.
From the opponents’ camp, Enyimba’s last oriental battle was against Heartland FC of Owerri, which the People’s Elephant won by 2-0 in Aba.
Enyimba are second (Behind Sunshine Stars) on the table having garnered 22 points from 12 games.
