Nigeria’s Super Falcons fought the battle of their lives against Sweden in their FIFA Women’s World Cup opening group match Monday night pulling 3-3 draw in a six-goal thrilling encounter.
The Nigerian team started badly by conceding two first half goals, but they bounced back into contention with Okobi and Asisat Oshoala conjuring two quick goals within seven minutes into the re-start.
Oparanozie scored an own goal in the 21st minute while Fischer and Sembrant hit target for Sweden in the 31st and 60th minutes respectively.
Okobi’s goal beat the Swedes in the 50th minute, while Oshoala, who plays for Liverpool in the English Women’s Premier League eqaualised for Nigeria in the 53rd minute.
Sweden, who are World’s third best team in FIFA Ranking, shot into the lead again midway into the second half and it looked like they were coasting home to victory when Francesca Ordega netted a rare equaliser for the African champions about three minutes to full time to end the highly explosive match 3-3 at the end of 90 minutes.
