Flying Eagles Battle Benin Republic

Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will take on their Benin Republic counterparts on 4 May in Porto Novo as part of their build-up to a 2015 African Youth Championship qualifier.
Flying Eagles team secretary Auwal Aliyu Ibrahim disclosed that the Nigeria U-20 team will depart for Lagos on 2 May and proceed to neighbouring Benin Republic the next day.
They will return to Lagos on 5 May and travel out from there for their qualifier against either Kenya or Tanzania.
The Flying Eagles battled their Benin counterparts to a 1-1 draw in September 2012 in Cotonou in a similar friendly match.
The rematch in Abuja a few months later finished in a 0-0 draw. Benin, who moved into training camp in Porto Novo this week, are to host the winners of the AYC first round qualifier between Niger and Congo next month. Niger won the first leg 2-0 at home.
Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles will continue their preparations for the AYC qualifier on Friday morning when they take on Nigeria National League, NNL, side FC Abuja.
According to Flying Eagles coordinator Sulaiman Abubakar, the match will kick off at 7am at the FIFA Goal Project in Abuja.
The Nigeria U-20 team have maintained a clean sheet in all the local test matches they have played so far.
However, plans are also at an advanced stage for the team to play another tune-up match against a top Nigeria Premier League side in the new week.
